Thrusters


Transverse Thrusters

DMS offers a wide range of transverse thrusters from 400 to 5500 kW, available with fixed pitch or controllable pitch propellers for auxiliary or dynamic positioning usage.

Underwater Mountable Thrusters

The underwater mountable thruster features an optimized design and provides excellent bollard pull performance. The benefits of the underwater mountable thrusters enable superior and reliable DP performance.

Retractable Thrusters

The retractable thruster offers fast retraction and deployment with high thrust performance. L- and Z-drive options enable integration in a wide range of vessel types and sizes.

Steerable Thrusters

DMS steerable thrusters generate considerable savings in cost due to their reliable and durable components, efficient propellers and maintenance friendly design. Available in a range from 1000 to 6500 kW.


Waterjets


Wärtsilä modular waterjets are fully optimized according to your vessel type and power source, with a high level of customization options available. Modular waterjets are constructed in 100% duplex stainless steel for outstanding durability.

Wärtsilä midsize waterjets are designed for 1,000–4,500 kW input powers and are delivered in five standard sizes with proven designs that offer shorter lead times and reduced costs. To reduce weight onboard, some parts are constructed from casted aluminium; critical components are constructed from high-grade stainless steel.


Propulsion Optimization Technology


Gate Rudder

GATE RUDDER™ by Wärtsilä reduces a vessel’s fuel consumption by replacing the drag of a traditional rudder system with a thrust-enhanced arrangement. The arrangement also provides excellent maneuvering capabilities and improves the noise and vibration signature. Placing the high-lift rudder foils on either side of the propeller enables turning at higher speeds and faster course changes.

EnergoPac

The Wärtsilä EnergoPac is the optimized propulsion and maneuvering solution for naval vessels. The key objective is to reduce the vessel’s fuel consumption by integrating the design of both the propeller and rudder. Each EnergoPac is designed to fit the intended vessel and to meet its specific requirements; this allows EnergoPac to be optimized fully for energy efficiency, whilst not compromising on either speed or comfort levels.

EnergoProFin

The Wärtsilä EnergoProFin is an energy saving propeller cap with fins that rotate together with the propeller. It improves propulsive efficiency by weakening the hub vortex, and by recovering kinetic energy from the rotating flow aft of the propeller blades. This solution provides average fuel savings of 2%, with a payback time of less than one year.

EnergoFlow

The Wärtsilä EnergoFlow is an innovative and cost-effective pre-swirl stator, that creates optimal inflow for the propeller by guiding one side of the stern flow in the opposite direction to the propeller rotation, generating pre-swirl. The EnergoFlow consists of multiple curved fins and a ring attached to the ship’s hull to prevent the power losses that typically occur in a propeller’s slipstream.

High Performance Nozzle

The improved Wärtsilä High Performance nozzle, the type of HP nozzle, when combined with Wärtsilä propellers, can provide up to 5% more thrust than conventional nozzles in bollard pull conditions. This nozzle improves the vessel’s bollard pull performance.
