Defense Maritime Solutions is fortunate to have a growing workforce and many long tenured employees, two of whom are celebrating 45 yrs. of service to DMS this year. Dean Lester, CPI Senior Propeller Specialist and Report Analyst, and Wayne Fuller, Senior Propeller Technician, both started with the organization when Lips-Doran Company, a subsidiary of Lips Propeller Works of Drunen, the Netherlands, established a presence in Chesapeake, VA in 1979. Â They have played a key role in enhancing DMS’s capabilities and have witnessed firsthand the growth in the range of products and services DMS now provides.
Dean Lester

Dean began his career at a local machine shop before joining Doran in June 1979, drawn by the organization’s potential for career advancement. This was his first experience with propulsor equipment, and he was immediately captivated by the opportunity to utilize his analytical and quantitative skills while gaining hands-on experience with propulsors.
After starting out as an assistant, Dean advanced fast to become a technician and eventually a senior propeller technician. Prior to assuming his current position as the CPI Senior Propeller Specialist and Report Analyst, Dean had held the position of Foreman.
In his current position, Dean collaborates with internal technicians, engineers and program managers to enhance business processes and delivers high-quality reports to clients.
Wayne Fuller

Wayne began his career at Newport News before joining the Doran team in 1979 as a welder. He started by repairing commercial propellers and became the first person to pass the NAVSEA welding test, enabling the company to engage in military-grade welding repairs. He also mentored other welders, increasing the number of certified technicians in the field.
In addition, Wayne was a pioneer in the diving industry and has many fond memories from his work repairing propellers on U.S. Navy ships, which took him around the globe.
As a Senior Propeller Technician, he mentors younger technicians, providing guidance and support to help cultivate the next generation of skilled professionals.
Thanks to Dean and Wayne for all their contributions to the DMS over the past 45 yrs.!
